On February 24 in Boston’s Symphony Hall and on February 26 in New York’s Carnegie Hall, Benjamin Zander will lead the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, vocal soloists, and choruses in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. The concerts will also be livestreamed. Zander has spent nearly half a century researching the score, and now aims to strike an artistic balance between the composer’s metronome markings and individual interpretation. The conductor first presented his ideas concerning the Ninth at Carnegie Hall with the Boston Philharmonic and the Chorus Pro Musica in 1983. Zander, whose TED Talk on the transformative power of classical music is the most-watched TED lecture on music, will give a pre-concert talk about the Beethoven scores that will be livestreamed. Vocal soloists Ashley Dixon, Nicholas Phan, Liv Redpath, and Alfred Walker will be joined by Chorus Pro Musica and Marsh Chapel Choir of Boston University.
